Amazing Alaska

When I grow up I want to live some place really, really cold. I have always loved cold weather. I have thought of living in Norway, Russia, or Alaska. I think Alaska sounds like the best option for me right now.

Alaska is  called the land of the midnight sun. In the northernmost part of Alaska, the sun never sets in the summer, and in the winter, the sun never comes up. This is because Alaska is so close to the Arctic Circle. Did you know that Alaska is the biggest state in the USA?  Alaska’s shoreline is bigger than the entire US Atlantic coast?

Alaska has the tallest mountain in North America; Mt. McKinley, sometimes called Denali. There are mountains everywhere you look –  there are thirty nine mountain ranges in total! (A mountain range is a group of mountains)

Alaska has fascinating animals like the beluga whale, the arctic fox who’s hair goes white in the winter and brown in the summer, the humpback whale, grizzly bears, polar bears, and the musk ox who’s has a very funny hairdo.

Did you know that in Alaska,  more snow falls than melts every year? This is why Alaska has so many glaciers! They have almost 100,000 glaciers. Did you know that glaciers can move?

Some day soon I would love to move to Alaska and enjoy the great outdoors!

Challenge 8

My Favourite Animal

My favorite animal is a moose. They have amazing antlers and a strange body! Moose are huge. They can be bigger than a six foot man. The moose is one of our Canadian symbols!

Moose are herbivores, which mean they eat plants like twigs and leaves. The word “Moose” comes from an Algonquin Indian word meaning twig eater. Pretty cool.

Moose are pretty calm….. most of the time. But if you see one in the wild, don’t approach it. If it’s hair on it’s hump is sticking up, or it’s ears are back, or it’s licking it’s lips – you’d better run!

Because I love animals so much, here is a YouTube video of funny talking animals.

Lego Sculptures at Disney World

Have you ever been to Disney World? I have been a few times and there is so many fun things to do. One of  the fun things to do is to go to Downtown Disney and see the Lego sculptures. One of them is a 30 foot long sea monster named Brickley. Brickley is made entirely out of Lego; that’s 170,00 bricks of Lego. and his weight is really heavy, he weighs half a ton! I wonder how many right angles Brickley has with all those Legos? I just figured it out!!!

24 right angles per Lego X 170,000= 4,080,000 right angles! Wow!

Here is some photos of other Lego sculptures at Disney, which one do you like best? They are all amazing. Don’t forget to take the poll!

Challenge 5: Let’s get Data

Club Penguin

I love Club Penguin! It’s an online game for kids from Disney. My penguin’s name is Cousin Corn, he is so awesome. I have been a member for five years, no joke. My penguin has  about 150 different items to wear. You can become a member too; it’s free. Or you can buy a paid membership and have access to lots of other stuff.

On Club Penguin, every penguin has an igloo that you can decorate and when you are done you can have parties at your igloo and have lots of people “like” your igloo too! You can visit other peoples igloo’s as well! You can chat with other kids and have up to 500 friends on your list at a time. I’m already at the 500 mark! You can also buy clothes; some of the clothes have cool powers – like if you are wearing a ref jersey and a whistle – when you wave, you hold up a sign that says ” goal!”  In Club Penguin you can earn belts ( 1 white belt, 2 yellow belt, 3 orange belt, 4 green belt, 5 blue belt, 6 red belt,7 purple belt, 8 brown belt 9, black belt). Once you get a black belt you can become a ninja, then a Fire Master then Water Master, and then (almost) Snow Master. Snow Master comes out this November.

Every month on Club Penguin there is a huge party. At Christmas time everything would be “Christmasy”, during Halloween and other holidays there are great things to do and everything is decorated. They just finished having a fall fair that was really fun. There are so many games to play on Club Penguin like:

  • Pizza Tron 3000
  • Mine Racer
  • Hydro Hopper
  • Ice Fishing
  • Bean Counters
  • Aqua Grabber
  • Catching Waves
  • Jet Pack Adventure
  • Puffle Launch
  • Card Jujitsu

These are just a few of their games. There is also a lot of arcade type games. Here is some information for you parents; it’s great for kids because it’s owned by Disney so you  know its good. There are no ads. They have live monitors and filtered chat, plus they have special parent tools. Club Penguin believes in Global Citizenship and helps kids to make a difference in  the world.

Every year they have a “coins for change” program where kids donate their virtual coins and Club Penguin/Disney donates up to 2 million dollars to help kids and their communities around the world! That’s a good thing! So if you’d like to join me, Cousin Corn on Club Penguin, you can go sign up today! Start with a free account!

Challenge 4 – Lots of Choice

Great Victoria, BC

Victoria is an awesome place to visit. In Victoria we have the best weather in Canada. Victoria is the capital of British Columbia. There are so many things to do like go hiking on Mill Hill or walking on the water front. One of my favourite things to do is ride my bike on the Galloping Goose Trail. The Goose is 100 kilometres long.

In the winter we have great hill’s to toboggan down. Me and my dad like going to hockey games at  the Royals home rink; its really fun watching them. Victoria has really beautiful forests and it’s so colourful in fall. Down at the waterfront there are buskers and they perform tricks and some play music.

I cant forget the Empress; the Empress was built in 1908, and if your wondering what the Empress is, it’s a hotel. If your in down town Victoria, why not stop at the Royal BC Museum all you need is a ticket or a pass. In down town Victoria there is so many cool shops and places to visit. And why not go down to world famous Butchart  Gardens; it’s so beautiful.  There are so many fascinating old buildings and churches to visit as well. Another great thing about Victoria, and also one of the best, is Hatley Castle, which was built in 1908. Or you can visit Craigdarroch Castle, which was built in 1890.  But perhaps, the best reason to visit Victoria is because I live here! Thank you for reading :).

Challenge 3: Our World

If I Had a Pot of Gold

If I had a pot of gold I would buy a 1,000,000,000 (that’s one billion) dollar bill, or a little more. If I had a pot of gold I would buy 5 tickets and a cage to see the Vancouver Canucks play! (Four tickets are for my family and the fifth ticket and the cage is for my cat – I don’t want him running down on the ice).

The NHL is on strike now so we can’t even see them play on T.V. 😦 I hope it ends soon. I am a BIG Canucks fan!

Salmon Fishing

Two days ago, my dad and I went salmon fishing. I caught two salmon; one was wild so I couldn’t keep it, (by the way, a wild one is a salmon that was not born in a hatchery) but the other one was not wild so I got to keep it. After we came back from fishing, at the dock I saw a cute seal. He  looked right at me. When we got home, my mom cooked the salmon and we ate it for dinner. It was so good. It tasted like chicken – I’m not kidding, really!  Even though I was home I still felt like I was on the boat. The motion was so wavy I felt sea sick. I’m really glad I feel better now.
